Dear Sewing Friends!

First of all, I have to apologize for my bad english, but I won´t do time consuming reasearch for my private blog, so you will have to use your imagination, if anything sounds weird or crazy... it´s all about sewing and costuming!

Well, I haven´t written in english for a while (must have been December 06!) and now I try to give you a bit more input, because I have found so many inspiring websites about costuming in the US web, that I will try to give a little bit of reward to you. 

Last week I was asked to show a friend of mine how I sewed my muffin hat: MUFFIN HAT. Well, to sew such a hat is easy as pie, but my friend lives 600 Kilometers from here and I thought it will be a lot more work to draw and explain the "how to" for her, a short video must be much better to show how to do it!

So my daughter made a little video and then she translated the important phrases into english and made subtitles for the film. So I can show the tutorial to everyone around the world. Too bad I had a sunburn that day, next time I will be better prepared for the "show" ;-)

Please note: The velvet I used was very cheap and soft, if you use a better quality, you dont need that interlining, ok? AND I use a german measuring tape, for american sewers I have converted the centimeters shown on my tape into inches.

Liebes Tagebuch!

Ja was soll ich sagen? Ich mal wieder:

Vor ein paar Tagen haben Blognachbarinnen Grüezi Schwiiz und Nowak dankenswerterweise auf den neuen internationalen Internetauftritt von Burda aufmerksam gemacht. Unter burdastyle.com gibt es seit Ende Januar nun eine neue Seite in englischer Sprache, auf der teilweise völlig andere Inhalte geboten werden, als auf der uns bekannten deutschen Seite von Burda.

Neben kostenlosen Download-Schnitten und einer Wissensdatenbank, ähnlich der fashionpedia bei uns, wird- soweit ich das beurteilen kann- dem Leser weit mehr nutzbarer Inhalt geboten als bei Burdamode. Denn es gibt eine "how to" Abteilung, in der alle Leser sich mit Tipps beteiligen können. Der Vorteil liegt auf der Hand: Mühen wir uns hier und auf Websites ab, unser Wissen an den Mann und die Frau zu bringen, findet das doch kein Mensch wenn er gezielt danach sucht.

Huch, jetzt hab´ ich ein Dejà Vu.... habe ich nicht seinerzeit davon gesprochen, dass eben eine solche zentrale Anlaufstelle für Wissen und gegenseitige Hilfestellung vonnöten wäre? Ich weiß es selber nicht, ich erzähle so viel wenn der Tag lang ist :-D ..... Aber genau das meinte ich: Ein Ort, an dem man sein Wissen abgelegen kann, und wo es auch gefunden wird. Da ist er!

Problematisch könnte vielleicht die bisher noch recht geringe Spezifizierung der Rubriken sein, aber die sagen ja selber, sie üben noch. Beta halt. Wem der Begriff nicht geläufig sein sollte: Beta bedeutet in der Testphase. Da wird noch dran rumgefeilt.

Einen Pfefferminzschlag bekam ich bei meinem heutigen Besuch auf Burdastyle... eine der Redakteurinnen schrieb mir eine PM (persönliche Kurznachricht) in der sie mir mitteilte, dass man für die von mir unter "Sonstiges" eingestellten Bilder von meinen Larp-Kostümen eine neue Rubik eingerichtet hat! WoW! Ich würde ja jetzt gerne sagen "Ey, meine eigene Rubrik", haha. Aber das ist ja Quatsch. Seit heute gibt es also auch eine "costume"-Rubrik, und nicht nur für mich! (Ich hoffe nur nicht, dass die Amis jetzt alle ihre Hunde-Kostüme da einstellen...sowas gibt es ja. :-D )

Bisher ist recht wenig los dort. Darum will ich nicht viel schreiben oder Massen an Bildern einstellen, ich will niemanden totreden oder mit Bildern ersticken. (Hier DARF ich das!) Also wäre es schön, wenn IHR alle da mitmacht, damit meine zukünftigen Ergüsse nicht so auffallen :-D

Die Seite ist natürlich komplett in Englisch. Auch ich verstehe nicht alles zur Gänze dort. Aber ich denke, ein gleiches Online-Angebot in einer Landessprache wie z.B. deutsch, würde den Leser- und Nutzerkreis doch stark einschränken. Und Hand auf´s Herz: Jeder ab Jahrgang 60 (ich bin 61, von den davor liegenden Jahrgängen weiß ich es nicht) sollte mehrere Jahre Englisch in der Schule gehabt haben! Und auch hier gilt: learning by doing. Irgendwie kommt man schon rein, wenn man nur anfängt.

Was ich bei Burdastyle noch nicht durchschaue: Man kann sogar seine eigenen Creationen dort zum Verkauf anbieten! Es ist die Rede von einer "creative common license", die es der Hobbyschneiderin (?) erlaubt, ihre Werke, die nach den BurdaStyle-Schnitten genäht worden sind, in einer begrenzten Auflage zu verkaufen! Also das ist ja mal was ganz NEUES!!! Bisher war es natürlich untersagt, die Schnitte kommerziell zu nutzen. Kann ich auch gut verstehen. Dass man nun diese speziellen Schnitte unter bestimmten Bedingungen verwenden darf... nun, das zeugt von einem neuen Marketing-Konzept.

Alle bisher gezeigten Download-Schnitte sind- soweit ich gesehen habe- kostenlos. Ich gehe davon aus, dass kostenpflichtige Schnitte folgen werden. Ist das die Zukunft? Ich bin mir ziemlich sicher. Natürlich werden- wie so oft- die Reseller, also die Händler die sich die Burda-Schnitte auf Lager legen und als Service am Kunden verkaufen, dann nix mehr zu verkaufen haben. Aber da ich die Gewinnspannen bei Schnittmustern nicht kenne, jedoch vermute, dass diese nicht gerade üppig sind, kann ich mir vorstellen, dass die Stoffgeschäfte nicht traurig sind, wenn sie den lagerintensiven Schnittverkauf dem Internet überlassen. Denn zum Stoffekaufen müssen die Schneiderinnen ja immer noch zu ihnen kommen.

Das "papierlose" Büro nun auch bei den Hobbyschneiderinnen? Natürlich nicht, denn den Schnitt müssen wir immer noch ausdrucken. Aber es spart dennoch Papier, nämlich drucken tun wir ja nur unsere Größe, auf den Kaufbögen müssen sie alle drauf sein. Oder Frau macht es wie ich: bevor ich einen Kaufschnitt auseinanderschneide, kopiere ich ihn lieber auf Seidenpapier...man weiß ja nie, ob man die anderen Größen nochmal braucht... (bisher nie, lol) das kann ich mir mit einem Schnitt auf Festplatte nun schenken, ich drucke aus was ich brauche, und brauche ich später eine andere Größe... habe ich sie ja in Petto.

Nun, es ist mit einer Vermarktung der Schnitte online zu rechnen. Wenn Burda es nicht macht, macht es jemand anders. Nicht nur bei Burda probiert man mit Downloads herum. All die kostenlosen Download-Angbote bei den bekannten Schnittanbietern.... bereiten nur das Feld, bzw. die Akzeptanz, für den Nutzer. Uns. Mir.

Und bei kostenlosen Downloads kann niemand meckern, wenn es Probleme mit der- noch zu testenden- Software gibt. Erste Falten können ausgebügelt werden, und dann geht es aus der Beta-Phase in den Verkauf. Sind die Preise der Online-Schnitte vielleicht günstiger? Man KÖNNTE sie billiger anbieten, da man Lagerhaltung, Personalkosten und Material spart. Aber so lange beide Systeme parallel laufen, darf keins der beiden dem anderen preislich das Wasser abgraben. Drum denke ich, werden wir trotz geringer Kosten dennoch normale Preise zahlen müssen. Es gilt abzuwarten.

Eigentlich wollte ich heute erzählen, was ich mir für die nahe Zukunft vorgenommen hatte: Aus jedem meiner Abo-Burdas EIN Outfit zu nähen. Aber ich glaube ich schwenke vielleicht um auf Burdastyle. Nur so zum Ausprobieren. Denn die Schnitte, die bisher angeboten werden, sagen mir nicht so recht zu. Und an diesem Punkt wird meine Kreativität gefordert: Aus einem (für mich) doofen Schnitt was zu machen. Gehn wir´s an! Erstmal lernen, wie man einen Schnitt downloadet und auch ausgedruckt bekommt. Punkt eins: Neue Druckerpatrone kaufen :-)  :-)  :-)

Es ist vollbracht! Ich verstehe so langsam, wie man diesen rss-Feed codiert, damit er immer alle neuen UND alten Inhalte anzeigt. Ich habe meine BEIDEN Browser (IE7 und Firefox) mit Plugins versehen, um RSS-Feeds in einer Seitenleiste anzeigen zu lassen. Ich wünschte, ich hätte das schon füher getan, denn es macht das Lesen der Liebslingsblogs viel, viel einfacher! Ein Klick und ich sehe, wo es was Neues gibt.

Und ich habe das ITune-Programm installiert, was man aber nicht braucht, wenn der IE oder Firefox das auch erledigt (bei Firefox heisst das Plugin "Sage", sehr zu empfehlen) Bei ITune muss ich meine Podcasts immer zwischen shop und Musik-Krimskrams suchen, nicht so mein Ding.

Nun muss ich noch rausfinden, wie und wo man kostenlose Musikuntermalung herbekommt. Ich will ja kein Copyright verletzen. Eine erste Musikquelle habe ich schon erschlossen, allerings nicht jedermanns Geschmack (Techno) und lustigerweise von einem Schwulensender (Toyboy) in Ösiland erstellt, auf den ich ja bei Verwendung der Musik auch hinweisen müsste. Was die Zielgruppe meines Blogs durch lustige neue Suchwörter (Google sei Dank) in völlig neue Bahnen lenkt. (lach)

Das Problem mit dem Speicherplatz habe ich bis auf weiteres verlagert. 1) kommt jetzt alles auf meine HP (da ich gelernt habe, diese rss-Datei selbst umzuschreiben) und 2) mache ich kleinere Dateien. Anlässlich des Besuchs einer Freundin aus USA in meinem Blog hab´ ich dann heute einen kleinen Pod-Beitrag für Amis gemacht, mal sehen ob sie was versteht, bei meinem Nuschel-Englisch. Ich glaube, ich brauche ein ordentliches Mikrofon ;-)

Nun stellen sich mir viele weitere Fragen:

Z.B. warum macht man dieses Podcast-Zeug eigentlich? Klar hat es viele Vorteile gegenüber dem geschriebenen Wort, aber erstens ist es sehr viel Arbeit, und zweitens... kann man Nähideen und/oder Techniken besser "zeigen" wenn man es hört? Ich habe da so meine Bedenken. Wenn man dann im Blog noch Text und Bilder zugeben muss, um das Erzählte verständlich oder plastisch zu machen, wozu dann die ganze Arbeit?

Was mich zu weiteren Überlegungen gebracht hat: Auf meiner HP sind ja ein paar Workshops (es sollen noch mehr werden) Dazu ist das Internet doch da: Lernen und Inspiration. Aber ich kenne noch keinen Weg, solche Information gezielt zu finden. Suche ich eine bestimmte Nähtechnik, durchforste ich mit Google alle Seiten, klar. Aber wenn ich z.B. nicht weiß, wie eine spezielle Technik heisst, wie finde ich sie dann (ging mir neulich mit dem "Fingerhäkeln" so)

Was ich mir nun noch wünsche, wäre ein "Format" für Tutorials (ich muss bei Gelegenheit meine Workshops mal umbenennen). So wie es für Podcasts eine gemeinsame Basis gibt, dann eine solche für Tutorials, Anleitungen, Workshops. Wäre das nicht fein? Ich sehe schon, ich verwirre euch. Ich kann nicht alles aufschreiben, was mir zum Thema "gezielte Wissensvermittlung via Internet" so alles durch den Kopf geht. Ich finde die Möglichkeiten faszinieren, aber es ist alles immer noch zu wenig strukturiert, zu chaotisch, um Wissen so anzubieten, wie es gebraucht wird. Zumindest was HANDarbeit angeht, also Dinge die wir mit den Händen tun. Da müssen Bilder her. Aber heute muss es erst mal mein neuer Podcast tun.

Ich über immer noch, wie ich den am besten anbiete, strukturiere und weiterführe. Die Zweisprachigkeit ist da für mich auch ein Thema, aber sehr sehr zeitaufwändig. Man wird sehen....

Bis ich weiß, wie ich Blog/Website/Podcast unter einen passenden Hut bringen soll, hört euch die zweite Folge an. Bitte aboniert das Ding mal, sollte mit Hilfe eures Browsers kein Problem sein (ich hab 3 Tage dafür üben müssen) Und dann probiere ich weiter rum, bis ich das gelernt habe. Uff.  Hi Folks! Finally another blog entry for you. A dear friend of mine made me thinking in english again (HI LISA!) and so I made the next step with my new podcast and made an english record. I am still practicing, so please forgive any mistakes I make. This podcasting thing is brandnew to me, and my english is not the very best. The content of my todays podcast is not very well structured, but I promise I will do better in the future.

I hope you feel comfortable with what I tell you in my podcast, and save the feed in your browser. Not all episodes will be in english, but my dear friend Lisa asked me to teach her some german, so here I am!

Actually I am thinking a lot about what to do next with my website, blog and the new podcast-thing. So all these elements will evolve during time, and I hope you enjoy what you see or hear, even if its far from beeing perfect. Soon I will have to get back to my sewing machine. How it sounds, you can hear in my podcast, lol. Take a few minutes and listen to my radio... stay tuned.

Oh my! I just saw the english version of the BURDA-Website. And it leads to our blogs too! When I checked it the last time, there was no link to the burdablogs, and so I thought it might me nice to put some english entries to my blog to get some readers here by their inquiries on search machines.

But now, if we are very lucky, all fans of Burda all over the world will come here and look for some sewing inspiration or hints.

As far as I know, most of the blog authors here speak english too, but as you can see in my blog.... its hard to keep it running with two languages. Some entries are really typical german, like the day on our local trade fair "Obstmarkt" or what happened at the table of the elven king Fingolfin last weekend. And I rarely sew each day, so that my output regarding the topic of the burdablogs is very limited.

Well, some visitors from other countries gave me some very positive feedback, so I resume a lot foreigners visit this blog each day. I have installed some gimmicks to find out which people from which countries (forgive me my grammar!) look in this place each day. I was really astonished, where they all come from!

Now that I realized that the weblogs are available for all english speaking readers too..... well, I try to write more in english AND I really HOPE, you fellows JOIN us here!!! Please, please, let us know how you live, think and SEW!

Well, it´s a little bit cruel to tell you about the upcoming weekend. Because you cannot come with me :-(

Tomorrow I will visit the convention of hobby tailorsI bet this is the wrong term, but even my online dictionary won´t help here). I would like to call it "sewing arts and crafts hobby convention" or something like that. It will be my first visit of such a show, and I am really excited what will happen there.

Today it´s time for another try in english.

Last weekend I have been to a medieval show on a really nice castle, Burg Satzvey, "one of the most beautiful and best maintained moated castles in North Rhine Wesfalia. The first written documents date this castle to 1396 with its foundations supposedly older still".

I never have been there, what a pitty! It´s a well renovated castle, and the owner presents a lot of events on his castle, like old musik, Halloween-partys, Medieval Jousting Tournament and such. For some impressions, visit this PAGE.

Well, me and a friend put on our prettiest historic and fantasy dresses (check yesterdays entry, there is a pic of my gown) and went there with our kids. The most fascinating thing for our two boys have been the birds of prey, and while my little one was having a snack, one of these huge birds flew by. He landed on a tree just next to us. The falconer came and lured his bird with some pieces of meat.

After both- son and bird- finished their dinner, the falconer went back to the birds station. We wanted to leave too, but a young guy came to me and he said: "Sorry mylady, but there was an accident on your dresses train."

Ooops. This dam bird left his last days dinner on my pretty gown! ******!

I managed to get rid of it by turning the train upside down, but I was really upset by this little accident. How likely is such an accident, eh? Isn´t this area in and outside the castle (and it was huge!) not big enough for this bad bird?

A lady on the fair told me, I will be lucky from that accident, the birds sh*t will work as a lucky charm... yeah, thanks! ;-)

We went to the bird station to watch this really beautiful animals, and maybe kick the bad one a bit.... And there it was: My lucky charm! At the bird station was a very old friend of mine, that I haven´t met for over 10 years! He visited some friends who care for these birds, and without these birds... we never would have meet again! I lost contact for so many years, and now the "bird accident" brought him back to me!

I have to admit, that some accidents may work as a lucky charm, even if they are as crazy as "bird sh*t on a gowns train". So think of me if you go out next time with your medieval gown and you see a bird of prey....

Well, I felt in love with a film I really refused to watch! I KNEW I will need some of the costumes if I watch it! This morning a friend visited me for breakfast, and she forced me to watch the movie. ;-)

Now that I saw the costumes, I have to wear some of them. I found a pretty nice website with pictures of the gowns. So if you never saw the film, check this:

The next step will be to find the best patterns. Some major companies offer some historical ones, but I will need some more investigation what will be the best ones for my favorites costumes.

I felt its necessary to put some english entries into my blog. I have installed a counter to my blog some days ago, and now I can see, where the visitors are coming from. Woot, you guys and girls are coming from everywhere!

First I have to apologize for my bad english. Its far from Shakespear, and I bet my english teacher will have some bad nights after reading this, but I try to do my very best to explain everything to you.

Well, I resume you came here for getting some input about whatever is exciting for me: My hobbies. Because its what I am writing about. First of all, there is sewing. Or is it called tailoring? English speaking peeps, let me know! (Check "Contact"

I love pretty cloths, mediaeval dresses, fantasy outfits. Since the age of 5, I love to dress as a princess. Unfortunately, this is not possible during shopping in Wal-Mart *lol* But I try! Some day in the far future, I will wear my prettiest gown in the supermarket! I promise, you will be informed about it immediately!
